How to Use Two-Way DSL Filters

Knowing how to use two-way DSL filters is important if you want to connect and stay connected to the Internet. If you do not hook the filters up to every phone line in the home or office, you will experience a low signal and dropped Internet access. Using the filters correctly is very important if you want to talk on the phone, use a fax or even hook up a phone line to your DirectTV or Dish TV receiver box while maintaining a connection with the Internet.

Instructions

Place a DSL filter on your telephone line where you have a fax machine. Place the phone line into the slot with the phone icon. Then place the cord coming out of the back of the filter into your phone jack.

Use a filter on every phone you have in the home. You plug the phone cord into the icon of a phone on the filter and plug the filter into the phone jack.

Place a filter on the phone line that goes into your DirectTV or Dish TV receiver. Place the phone line into the receiver, then the other end into the filter where the phone icon is located. Finally, place the cord for the filter into a phone jack.

Use a filter on the phone line where you have your DSL modem. Place the filter cord into the phone jack. Next, place the modem phone line into the icon on the filter that shows a PC. Do not plug this cord into the phone line icon. It must be in the PC icon slot. If you have a phone on this same line, you can then plug that into the phone icon on the filter.

Tips & Warnings

  • One easy way to remember where to install a DSL filter is anywhere you have a phone jack, you should place a filter whether you need it or not. That way, if you hook anything up to that phone jack, you will have a filter already in place.
