It's simple to wash and dry clothing, but tennis shoes are another matter. You will need to dry them without using too much heat, which shrinks them. But if you do not get them dried out quickly, they can become moldy and odorous. Here, how to use your clothes dryer to dry your wet shoes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clothes dryer
  • Clothes dryer strap product or mesh bag to keep shoes attached to the side of the dryer, such as NoBang! (See the Resources section for information on making a mesh bag at home)
  1. Step 1

Secure the shoes inside the dryer strap and attach the suction cups to the inside of the dryer wall. This will keep your shoes in place as while drying. Whichever dryer strap product you use, make sure that it says that the suction cups are heat resistant or that it uses magnets.

  2. Step 2

If you are using a mesh bag, place the shoes inside the bag, close it, and attach it to the inside of the dryer wall.

  3. Step 3

Turn the dryer on to "low heat" or "delicate" for 60 to 90 minutes or until the shoes are dry. The exact amount of time will vary depending upon how wet your shoes were.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not use a clothes dryer strap or mesh bag, the shoes will likely bang around inside of the dryer, making a lot of noise. This is normal and it will not harm your dryer.
  • Be sure to use a low heat in your dryer since the regular setting could cause your shoes to shrink.
