Adding a diffuser to your usual blow-drying routine can give naturally straight hair a boost of volume or flowing waves for a different style. This simple-to-use attachment is a favorite of hair stylists and for those with straight tresses who want to try a new look. Diffused hair is a stylish look for any time of year, but it's perfect for summer. A wavy, less defined style accompanies the relaxed summer or vacation wardrobe and holds well under heat and humidity. Following the instructions below, you can use this hair styling accessory on your own locks to inject some shape and style.

Absorb the water from your hair with a clean towel.

Add a curl-enhancing hair product, applying it from roots to ends (optional).

Turn on the blow dryer at the lowest speed, diffusing your hair at the roots first and moving in a slow circular motion.

Hold the dryer above your head at a 90-degree angle to give volume to the hair as you dry.

Once the top of the hair is dry, concentrate on the ends, still holding the dryer up above the hair.

Flip your hair upside down and dry with the diffuser for about a minute to add more volume.

Tips

  • Keep in mind that with a quality hair cut, any type of hair and length can be dried with a diffuser.
