Grease and dirt get stuck in between the spokes on rims, making them difficult to clean. To get between the spokes to remove the excess dirt, it takes a quality rim cleaner or degreaser that is safe to use on the type of rims you have. Rims can be made of aluminum, polished aluminum, alloy and chrome and some wheel cleaners can damage sensitive wheel metals.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wheel cleaner
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Hose with water
  • Soft bristle brush
  1. Step 1

Spray the rim with water from a hose to remove excess dirt.

  2. Step 2

Spray the rim completely with a wheel cleaner. Remember to choose a cleaner that is safe for your rim metal. Black Magic Titanium Wheel Cleaner is safe on all types of metal because it is pH balanced. Spray the cleaner in between the spokes and lug nuts so all the dirt is soaked. Let the cleaner sit on the rim for at least 1 minute.

  3. Step 3

Use a microfiber cloth to wipe off the wheel cleaner. The grease and dirt should easily wipe off. Use a soft brush around the spokes if they are heavily soiled. Use a scratch free brush and gently rub the brush around the soiled area.

  4. Step 4

Spray the wheel with a hose again to rinse off the remaining dirt. If any areas did not get clean, spray a little more cleaner directly on the area and repeat the steps.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can follow up this process by applying polish to your rims, such as Black Magic Wheel Polish, but make sure it is safe for your wheel metal. Polish will make future cleanings easier.
