How you clean the face, or screen, of your laptop is very important. Using the wrong sort of household chemicals--such as ammonia-based solutions or scouring and polishing products--may damage your laptop screen or even ruin it. While you can purchase expensive microfiber cloths specifically to clean the face of your laptop, you can also keep the laptop screen clean with household products as long as you use a cloth that's woven of soft cotton. Stay away from sponges and paper towels--they might scratch the screen.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn your laptop off. Cover the keyboard with a sheet of plastic to protect it from any accidental drips as you clean the laptop screen.

  2. Step 2

Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of one part white vinegar to one part distilled water.

  3. Step 3

Spritz just enough of the vinegar-water mixture onto your cotton cloth to slightly dampen it.

  4. Step 4

Wipe the screen of your laptop very gently in a circular motion.

  5. Step 5

Spritz more vinegar-water mixture onto the cloth, and wipe as much as necessary until the screen is clean.

  6. Step 6

Wipe the laptop screen dry with a dry section of the same woven cloth.
