How to Store Rose Petals

Rose petals are a popular wedding decoration. You might also find them of use during Mother's Day, Valentine's Day or any other special occasion or holiday that can be seen with a romantic twist. Whether you're plucking your own rose petals off fresh blooms or have ordered them in bulk--in which case they may come either fresh or freeze dried--you can extend the life of your rose petals by storing them properly.

• Plastic bag
• Box

Instructions

1. Store fresh rose petals in a plastic bag, tucked away in a cool, dry location such as a closet. Make sure they're not placed in an area where they will be crushed and are stored in a box to prevent crushing. Expect rose petals stored this way to last about 72 hours.

2. Refrigerate fresh rose petals for a long life--they will last up to seven days if stored in a plastic bag and refrigerated.

3. Keep freeze-dried rose petals out of the fridge. These petals have already been preserved by the freeze-drying process, and, as long as they're kept out of sun and extreme heat or humidity, they will last indefinitely. Just tuck them into a plastic bag or box and put them away in the closet or another cool, dry place.
