Do a Floral Arrangement With Twigs Around Flower Stems

Placing twigs around a floral arrangement creates a natural and reusable look. Many of the supplies needed for this project are found around the house, making it an inexpensive addition to your flowers. Changing the ribbon and flowers used in the arrangement makes this a year-round floral arrangement accessory. Floral arrangements with twigs add an extra special touch when giving a flower arrangement to someone. It shows thought and time went into selecting the flowers and container.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Save the can from last night's green beans. Rinse thoroughly and remove the label. Pick up twigs from around the yard measuring about the same diameter. Break or cut the twigs to be slightly taller than the can.

  2. Step 2

Attach twigs to container. Make sure the can is completely dry before attaching the twigs. Place hot glue on the can in sections so there is enough time to attach the twigs before the glue dries. Place the twigs against each other on the can, leaving as little open space as possible. Check for any loose twigs and re-glue. Place a rubber band around the twigs to hold them in place.

  3. Step 3

Add a decorative ribbon. Use raffia or decorative ribbon to create some flair for the twigs around the floral arrangement. Measure the appropriate length of ribbon and cut. Place the ribbon around the twigs and tie a nice bow. Make sure the ribbon or raffia hides the rubber bands.

  4. Step 4

Cut uneven edges. Use pruning shears to cut any twig edges that are taller than the others. The twigs should be about the same height. Fill the can two-thirds full with water.

  5. Step 5

Arrange flowers. Pick flowers from your garden or grab some on your next trip to the market. Cut the stems at an angle so the flowers can absorb as much water as possible. Arrange the flowers in the can and allow some to droop over the edges, overlapping the twigs.
