How to Make a Circular Flower Bed Rock Garden
If you have a spot in your yard where the grass just won't grow, stop putting grass seed down, and try to make a small flower bed rock garden instead. A flower garden is guaranteed to cheer up any troublesome spot, as well as yourself! Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Shovel
- Medium and large rocks
- Landscape fabric
- Landscape bricks
- Dirt or potting soil
- Plants
- Flowers
- Herbs
Instructions
-
Mark the area to be used for your rock garden.
-
1
Decide on a shape and use a shovel with a pointed blade to outline the area of your intended garden. Break up the sod, and dig down about 4 inches into the soil. Dig out any grass and soil until the ground is flat.
-
2
Put down the landscaping fabric. Cut the fabric to cover the area, leaving about a 6-inch overlap around the edges of your garden. Set the fabric by going around the edge of the garden with the shovel, tucking the fabric down into the soil as you go.

-
3
Place landscaping bricks around the outer edge of the garden. The next step is to plan the placement of your plants and rocks inside the garden. Cut holes in the fabric where your plants will be.
-
4
Add some fertilized potting/garden soil to the area, put the plants in the ground, and add more soil as needed. Shovel about a 4-inch layer of dirt over the entire area of landscaping material. Water the plants.
-
5
Lay down down your rocks. Whether you choose a few rocks, or just one big rock, your garden is done.
