Cleaning a bristled hairbrush is easy and effective. Like any other beauty care tool, bristled hairbrushes need to be cleaned to avoid a buildup of bacteria, dandruff, hair or mold.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Mild soap or shampoo
  • Alcohol
  • Old toothbrush or small cleaning brush
  • Cotton swabs
  1. Step 1

Remove all hair and lint from the hairbrush. Try not to leave any hair behind on the bristles.

  2. Step 2

Fill a clean sink with warm water. Add a mild soap to it and let it dissolve. Place the brush in the soapy water for about a half-hour. If mild soap is unavailable, try shampoo.

  3. Step 3

Use a toothbrush or small cleaning brush to scrub the crevices between the bristles and the handle of the brush. Apply more mild soap to the cleaning brush.

  4. Step 4

If grime or mold remains, use alcohol on a cotton swab to further clean the brush.

  5. Step 5

Place the brush on a clean towel to dry for a few hours before using it again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clean your bristled brushes every other week if possible.
  • Don't use any harsh or abrasive cleaners on your brush.
