FrontPage is Microsoft software that helps the beginner or expert design web pages. FrontPage has several versions and was discontinued at the end of 2006. You could buy the software separately or find it with a deluxe version of Microsoft Office. This made it a lot more affordable than other web designing software. You can still use the software to update any website or even create new websites. Here is how to update a website using FrontPage.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • FTP program
  • FrontPage
  1. Step 1

Open up FrontPage and find the file you want to change. FrontPage stores webpages in a folder called My Webs. If you don't have your files on your computer, you can still update your website using FrontPage. Just open up your ftp program and drag the files from your Internet website host to the My Webs folder. FrontPage edits .htm or .html files. This means you can update your site with FrontPage even if you didn't build it with the software.

  2. Step 2

Change your include files. This is a popular way of building websites with FrontPage. These files will be included at the top or bottom of every webpage that had the code for it. This way, you can change your logo without having to update every webpage. You just have to update the include files. Use an ftp program to upload your new include files. You'll need to upload each page of your website again for the new files to show up on your website.

  3. Step 3

Go back and forth between the Normal and HTML tabs in FrontPage. At first glance, you might think FrontPage looks a lot like Microsoft Office. It allows you to change a website without a lot of technical knowledge. You just delete the text you don't want or add a few pictures. Look at the HTML tab every so often. This way, you make sure FrontPage isn't adding unwanted code that can bog down your site. It also helps you to learn HTML slowly.

  4. Step 4

Add in pictures using FrontPage. Whenever you add a new product to your site, you'll also want to have a picture next to the product description. This adds interest to your page and let users know what they will be buying. To do this in FrontPage, go to the "insert" menu at the top of the screen. Then click on "Picture" followed by "From file." Find the picture on your computer that you want to insert into your website. In order for it to show up on the web, you'll need to use your ftp program to upload your pictures to a folder. Then click the html tab on FrontPage and find the code for your picture. Replace the dots behind "img source" with the web location of your picture.

  5. Step 5

Save your file. Use the FTP program to upload your new FrontPage site.
