Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
- 3/4-inch-thick wood slab
- Electric saw
- Sandpaper or power sander
- Paint brush
- Paint or wood stain
- Hinges
- Door handle
- Screws
- Screwdriver
-
Step 1
Measure the opening of the bathroom cabinet where the doors will be installed. Add 1/2 inch to 1 inch on each side so that the doors will slightly overlap the side of the cabinets. Divide the width of this measurement by 2 to find the size of each door panel.
-
Step 2
Choose the wood and type of finish you will be using on the bathroom cabinet door. If you will be painting the door, you can choose a less expensive type of wood because the grain will not be visible. If you prefer a natural finish, choose an attractive wood like oak or mahogany.
-
Step 3
Use an electric saw and your measurements from Step 1 to cut two door panels from a 3/4-inch thick wood slab.
-
Step 4
Sand the door panels on both sides. Start with a coarse grain sandpaper and switch to a finer grain to create a soft, smooth surface.
-
Step 5
Apply a coat of the finish of your choice, whether it is paint or wood stain. Allow the finish to dry overnight.
-
Step 6
Set the door panels upside down on the floor. Place two hinges on the outer edge of each door panel, about 4 inches from the top and bottom. Mark the location of the hinges and check your line with a level so that the doors will hang straight when attached to the cabinets. Drill holes and attach the hinges with wood screws.
-
Step 7
Drill the necessary holes to install your choice of door handles on the inside edge of the door panels. The handle should be about 2 inches from the inner edge where the two cabinet doors will meet. Use screws to attach the door hardware (usually included with the hardware itself).
-
Step 8
Have someone help you hold each door up while you attach the hinges to the cabinet.
