Insomnia can be relieved with herbal teas. Herbal "teas" are not technically from the tea plant, and they are sometimes called herbal infusions or tisanes. People are increasingly turning towards herbal remedies for insomnia for this reason. Herbal teas relieve insomnia by calming anxiety, soothing stress, calming nerves relieving cramps and pains, and easing digestion. Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Herbal Tea
  1. Step 1

Brew chamomile tea and drink a cup to relieve mild insomnia. Chamomile is a tried and tested herbal remedy for calming the body and inducing mild sedation. Make chamomile tea with a teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers, or use 2 chamomile tea-bags to a cup of water.

  2. Step 2

Drink a combination of chamomile tea and valerian tea for insomnia due to anxiety. Valerian is considered to be a tranquilizer in folk medicine, and has a calming effect on the body. In combination, chamomile and valerian make a soothing tea that promotes relaxation and relieves anxiety. This is a great tea to relieve agitation on those extra stressful days.

  3. Step 3

Make a cup of tea with digestion promoting herbs like peppermint, fennel, lemon balm, and chamomile sweetened with a little honey to relieve indigestion related insomnia. Peppermint, and fennel have been used for ages to treat heartburn, flatulence, and cramps. Lemon balm and chamomile have a calming effect on the entire body, and especially the digestive system.

  4. Step 4

Soak in a warm bath infused with herbal teas as an additional way to promote relaxation and relieve insomnia. Bath teas to promote sleep are available in health food stores. For a homemade version use four chamomile tea-bags in a gallon of boiling water and steep for five to ten minutes. Add this infusion to a bathtub filled three fourths with warm water. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil, and enjoy an aromatic bath!

Tips & Warnings
  • Drink herbal teas at least 30 minutes before bed time.
  • Don't forget to enjoy the aroma of the tea. The aroma of some herbs are as therapeutic as their taste.
  • Chamomile reacts with certain anti-coagulant prescription medications. Consult a doctor before beginning a herbal remedy.
