Develop a quick sense of the contestant: Throughout the contest you will be asked to judge personality in each area of competition. You will need to score personality even when you have no opportunity to speak to the contestant. An example of this is during horsemanship. You will have to look for signs that signify personality during these times.

Watch the contestants: Pay attention to how they handle themselves in every situation throughout the pageant. Does the contestant know how to inter-act and mingle with those around her? Does she know when to speak and when to keep quiet? Is she interested in those around her? Does she take time to visit with rodeo fans, other contestants, visiting dignitaries? How does she treat her family and friends? Is she comfortable in each situation? Does she exhibit a happy and pleasant countenance?

Question the contestant: During the interviews and on-stage you will have the opportunity to judge the contestant on specific questions that will help you determine if she is a person interested in the world around her and if she has a "winning personality." Is she comfortable with who she is and is she the best that she can be? Ask questions that will determine her outlook on life. Does she have a sense of humor and a positive attitude? Is she "real" or a "pageant patty?" Specific questions will help you get to know the real person.

4
Score the contestant: As a judge, the best way to score a contestant is simply whether you "like" her! Is she someone you would like to be friends with and would you like to get to know her better? Is she pleasant to watch and talk to? Does she make you smile? Judging personality is important because as a rodeo queen she will be an ambassador for the sport of rodeo and it is your job to find someone who will represent well.
