Things You'll Need:
- Caulking,
- Basin Wrench,
- Sponge
-
Step 1
When installing an 8-inch bathroom room faucet, you need to take into consideration whether the faucet is going to be put on before or after the basin is hooked on the wall. Another thing you need to know is if the faucet is going on a pedestal style bathroom sink or a cabinet style bathroom sink.
-
Step 2
One big tool that is a must to have, if you’re working on a faucet that is connected to a sink, is a basin wrench. The basin wrench is a tool that has a claw looking gripper that can be turned 90 degrees with a “T” shaped bottom. This wrench is great to loosen and tighten the big nuts that hook the water supplies to the faucet in tight places.
-
Step 3
The easiest way to put the faucet on is to put it on the basin before hooking it to the wall or placing the basin on the pedestal. Not all 8 inch faucets are alike, some come in many pieces that have to be put together and some in one piece. This site has some steps to help with the installation of your faucet: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/intro/0,,1615503,00.html
-
Step 4
Make sure the water supply stops are off.
-
Step 5
Take out the 8 inch faucet, and assemble as much of the faucet as you can before you attach it to the sink. Remember different brand faucets go together in many various ways. If you purchased the faucet new there should be instructions on how to assemble the faucet. Follow them. Some of the instructions have internet site help or phone help. You need to put caulking on the topside of the basin around the holes where the faucet goes through. Put the faucet on.
-
Step 6
You will use a Basin Wrench (this style wrench can be purchased at a local hardware store) to put on the faucet. Put the supply nuts and hand tighten, and then use to basin wrench to tighten. Depending on the brand of faucet put the valve through the sink holes, and put the top trim pieces on the valve and the spout.
-
Step 7
Use caulking to put on the drain top piece, but only on the bottom side of it. Slide the bottom part of the drain through the basin’s drain hole. Make sure you have the tightening nut on first and twist it all the way down. Next put the big flat washer on. Last put the rubber washer on with the beveled side up. Twist the parts together. And screw up the tightening nuts against the basin drain hole.
-
Step 8
Wipe off the excess caulking for the top side of the drain. Put in the drain stopper and put the put up/down pole into the hole on the top that is usually behind the spout. Use the supplied clips and stopper rod to connect the underneath to drain stopper to the up/down rod.
-
Step 9
Turn water supply stops back on and check for leaks.
