Yuck! A tick on a dog!

If your dog has tick symptoms and you search his body to find a tick, the important thing to do is remove the tick immediately. This isn't an easy task and you need to make sure it is done well to lower the chance for an infection or cause health problems for your pet in the future. Here are the steps to remove a tick from your dog.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dog
  • Tick
  • Tweezers
  • Soap and Water
  1. Step 1

Find the tick on your dog and position your pet to hold still. This is important as removing the tick may have the dog feel a stinging feeling.

  2. Step 2

Move the dogs hair around so you have a complete visual on the tick area. Look to see if the area is red or if the tick is only present.

  3. Step 3

Take the tweezers and carefully place a side over the tick so you can easily squeeze it and pull up to remove it. Your removal may require a swift movement as ticks usually are well placed in the skin if residing these for longer than a few days.

  4. Step 4

Also making sure the tick is destroyed by squishing it, remove it and flush it down the toilet. Don't leave it in the trash, just in case it is still alive.

  5. Step 5

Once the tick is pulled out, you need to immediately wash the area with soap and water. Make sure it stays clean and don't allow your dog to lick or scratch the area where the tick was residing.

  6. Step 6

Keep an eye on your dog to make sure he or she responds correctly. Ticks carry disease and bacteria so you need to make sure this doesn't need veterinarian assistance. And if it does contact your vet immediately.

Tips & Warnings
