Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the correct Brake Controller for either a 2 or 4 axle utility trailer. I recommend Tekonsha or Uhaul brand. Read the directions twice. The kit will have everything you need in regards to parts.

Under the rear of the vehicle is the wire loom for the vehicle. Using the test light, ground it (clamp) to the underframe of the vehicle. Turn on the headlights and pierce each wire until you find the light illuminates. Keep it clamped and then turn them off/on to verify that it is the wire functioning the headlights. Mark each wire for its function by using masking tape and pen. Continue to test for the right/left turns,& stop lights. Finally, turn everything off and test each wire for a solid light. This is the constant power.

Verify the wiring from the trailer and match its functions to your vehicle functions. Mark them as well. Now perform the connections for the Brake controller which will incorporate the marked wiring on your vehicle.

After installation the you will need to adjust the sensitivity of your trailer brakes as recommended by the manufacturer

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't do this with a weak battery. It will discharge fast. Make sure the "ground" is clean and it will make a good contact. Test your light on your battery first to ensure it works by clamping the negative post and touching the positive post. The light should work.

  • Chock all wheels on your vehicle and trailer for safety. After you have designated the wiring connections, disconnect the battery negative contact. This will save fuses. The manufacturer also has a technical 800 phone number in the package for further assistance. If you would like the technical assistance, plan the installation according to the manufacturers operating hours.
