Razor burn is such a pain... literally, but there are ways to prevent it. Simply take these precautions every time you shave and your problems with razor burn should be minimized.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean, sharp razor
  • shaving cream or hair conditioner
  • lotion
  • stick deodorant
  1. Step 1

Always start with a sharp, clean razor. If your razor looks dirty or rusty, then throw it out! Razors need to be cleaned after each use, as a dirty razor will cause razor burn and possibly even infection.

  2. Step 2

Soak the area that you are going to be shaving for 10 minutes prior to shaving. This can be done in the shower or the bath. Use that time to wash your hair, or the rest of your body while you wait.

  3. Step 3

Always use shaving cream, shave gel, or even better, hair conditioner to shave with. Soap and water will not cut it. Lather up well, and rinse the razor after each stroke.

  4. Step 4

Most people shave the hair against the direction of the hair growth to ensure a close shave. However, if you have extremely sensitive skin, then try shaving the hair in the direction of the hair growth to minimize razor burn and discomfort.

  5. Step 5

Rinse after shaving and dry yourself off after finishing your shower or bath.

  6. Step 6

Apply lotion to your skin and allow it to dry for a few minutes.

  7. Step 7

Apply stick deodorant to the freshly shaved areas to help prevent razor bumps.
