Contact lenses bring a whole new dimension to vision correction giving you back the peripheral vision you lose with glasses. Learning to put contact lenses in without blinking is simple if you follow these easy steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Contact Lenses
  • Saline Solution
  • Mirror in a well lit room
  1. Step 1

The first step is to get everything ready. Have handy your contact lenses placed so that you know which one is for the left eye and which one is for the right. Have a bottle of saline solution within easy reach. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly so as not to contaminate the contact lenses which can lead to infection.

  2. Step 2

Remove a contact lens from it's case and ensure that is not inside out. Always rinse the contact with saline solution prior to placing it in your eye. Once you have determined that the lens is right side to place it on the index finger of the hand you are most comfortable using so that it is ready to place in your eye.

  3. Step 3

With your other hand, place your thumb below your eye but toward the outside of your face and index finger toward the center of your upper eye lid. Using gentle pressure push upward with your index finger and downward with your thumb. This will open your eye nice and wide. Hold your eye open in this manner and now place the contact from your other index finger gently into your eye. Holding your eye open like this will prevent you from blinking and either knocking the lens off your index finger or having it not be placed right. Once the lens is in place, if it feels comfortable and you can see clearly, you are done. If it is uncomfortable, remove it, rinse, inspect for damage such as a small tear, and if you find no damage try again to insert it. If it is uncomfortable no matter what you do, try a new lens, it could be flawed.

  4. Step 4

Repeat above steps to insert contact into your other eye. Once it's in place, if it is comfortable, you are done.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always ensure to wash and dry hands thoroughly to avoid infections
  • Until you get used to it, it may take several attempts to properly insert a lens.
  • If you have any pain or sensitivity from your lenses and a new lens does not resolve it contact your eye care provider.
