Do you have a cat that loves to scratch furniture, swipe at people or accidentally scratches you when you’re holding them? If you answered yes, you will like to learn about the Soft Paws option. Families with small children can use Soft Paws on their feline family members to protect human family members without declawing your pet cat. Soft Paws are caps that over the cat’s claws to help prevent sharp nails and accidents. Many cat pet owners feel that Soft Paws is a human alternative to declawing or finding a home for a cat that is hard to manage.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comfortable Area
  • Package of Soft Paws
  • Helper
  1. Step 1

    Gather up your supplies prior to getting your cat to apply the Soft Paws to him.

  2. Step 2

    Reward your cat while picking up and taking to a comfortable area.

  3. Step 3

    Have a helper hold your cat gently while you apply the Soft Paws to the claws.

  4. Step 4

    Place a small amount of Soft Paws glue inside the cap.

  5. Step 5

    Press gently on the cat’s paw area to extend a claw. Place the Soft Paws cap that has glue in it over the cat’s nails.

  6. Step 6

    Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all of the cat’s claws have been covered with Soft Paws caps.

  7. Step 7

    Place cat in a cat carrier or kennel for about thirty minutes for the Soft Paws glue to fully dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can choose from different colors of Soft Paws caps to put on your cat’s claws.
  • Some people prefer to trim their cat’s claws prior to Soft Paws caps but it’s not necessary.
  • Reward your cat while putting on the Soft Paws caps to make it a good experience.
  • Only apply Soft Paws when your cat is calm.

on 5/18/2009 Excellent article. Great product. If you can get a kitten used to these when young, it will be a snap to glue them on when the cat gets older.
