Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • backyard
  • seeds
  • water
  • time
  • fertilizer
  1. Step 1

Pick a area in your backyard for the garden. Pull all the grass and weeds in the area. Turn the soil with a tiller or shovel and rake. Have your soil tested by your local County Extension Office to find out what nutrients need to be added to the soil for premium healthy vegetables.

  2. Step 2

Fertilize the soil. Divide the garden into four areas.

  3. Step 3

Go to the store and pick out seeds for the vegetables that you will grow. Get your kids and decide what will be grown in what areas. Then plant the seeds according to the package directions. Make a note of what is planted where. You will want to plant things in different areas next year so that the soil gets a rest from having the same vegetable planted in it.

  4. Step 4

Water your garden regularly. Pull weeds periodically. Pick your vegetables when ripe.
