How to Recharge a Lawn Mower Battery
If a lawn mower is stored with the battery still connected, the battery will be dead by the beginning of the next season. That does not mean that the lawn mower battery is no longer usable; it just needs a good charging. Hooking the lawn mower battery up to a charger will take care of the problem. Remove the dead battery from the lawn mower. Clean the terminals if needed with a solution of baking soda and water and a brush. Add distilled water to the battery cells if needed.

Check the battery's amp rating. Hook the charger's connections up to the battery, red to the positive (+) terminal and black to the negative (-) terminal.

Plug the Black & Decker Smart Battery Charger into a wall outlet (power supply). The charger will display "000" when the power has been connected. Select the proper battery amperage according to the battery size (2/10/25 amps). If you are unsure of the amperage, charge at the 2-amp rate.

Allow the battery charger to cycle the battery through the charging process. If after 3 hours the display reads "F03," the battery cannot be charged. When the battery is fully charged, the display will read "FUL." Keep in mind that charging batteries can produce a flammable gas.

Fan the air around the battery before approaching the charged battery. Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet. Disconnect the charger from the battery contacts.

Put the charged battery back into its place in the lawn mower. Hook the battery up to the battery contacts. Attempt to start the lawn mower to test the battery.
