Things You'll Need:
- Black & Decker Smart Battery Charger Power supply
-
Step 1
Remove the dead battery from the lawn mower. Clean the terminals if needed with a solution of baking soda and water and a brush. Add distilled water to the battery cells if needed.
-
Step 2
Check the battery's amp rating. Hook the charger's connections up to the battery, red to the positive (+) terminal and black to the negative (-) terminal.
-
Step 3
Plug the Black & Decker Smart Battery Charger into a wall outlet (power supply). The charger will display "000" when the power has been connected. Select the proper battery amperage according to the battery size (2/10/25 amps). If you are unsure of the amperage, charge at the 2-amp rate.
-
Step 4
Allow the battery charger to cycle the battery through the charging process. If after 3 hours the display reads "F03," the battery cannot be charged. When the battery is fully charged, the display will read "FUL." Keep in mind that charging batteries can produce a flammable gas.
-
Step 5
Fan the air around the battery before approaching the charged battery. Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet. Disconnect the charger from the battery contacts.
-
Step 6
Put the charged battery back into its place in the lawn mower. Hook the battery up to the battery contacts. Attempt to start the lawn mower to test the battery.
