Audio file converting is the process of changing a file's format for effective playback. Different programs require compatible file extensions for the file to be readable. Mp3 and WMA files are two of the most popular file extensions because music files are formatted in these extensions. The process of converting mp3 files to WMA is now a common action, due to the high popularity of the format itself. You can convert music files in a matter of minutes for your listening pleasure.

  • Internet connection
  • MP3 to WMA converter
  • mp3 files
  1. Step 1

Click on the download link listed below to run the WMA MP3 Conversion program. When the "File Download" window pops up, click on the "Run" option to utilize the program, rather than installing the full program to your hard drive.

  2. Step 2

Open the program once the components have been configured. Click on the "Add Files" tab that will be located on the left pane of the MP3 to WMA conversion program to load your mp3 files into the program. Locate the files when the Windows Explorer popup screen appears and select the "Open" command in the lower-right region of the screen.

  3. Step 3

Choose your output format. Your output format will be listed below the "Convert To" command. Click on the "Convert To" option and select WMA in the "Convert To" drop box.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Convert" action to change the mp3 files to the WMA file extension. The elapsed time estimator will appear on your screen with the progress of your conversion process. The screen will disappear once the conversion process is complete.

  5. Step 5

Check the converted files for accuracy. Right-click on one of the newly converted files and select "Play Destination." If the file opens in a new program window and plays successfully, the conversion process was effective.

  6. Step 6

Close the program to complete the conversion process. When the program closes, your files will be stored in the same file location but under the newly converted extension.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you click on the download link, you can opt to save the program to your hard drive if you would like to have it for later use. Be aware that the original WMA files will no longer exist once you have converted them. In order to change the format back to WMA, you will need to re-convert the file back to the original WMA file format.
  • Make sure the mp3 files you wish to convert are stored to your computer's hard drive. If they are not, there will be no way of loading them into the conversion program. Do not interrupt or abort the conversion process once it has begun. This may cause malfunction with the playback capability of the file. As a result the file may be considered broken or its contents may no longer work properly.
