Make Wooden Surfboard Clocks

A wooden surfboard clock adds the feel of the beach to a summer home, beachside cottage or family room. They're easy to make with preassembled clock mechanisms and a drill with the proper attachment. Clock faces come in a variety of sizes and styles. Create your own clock face by painting it on the surfboard, or design a clock that has only hands and no face. Make a wooden surfboard clock in under an hour with these simple steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Surfboard
  • Clock mechanism
  • Clock face
  • Hands
  • End cap
  • Drill with hole saw attachment
  • Screw eyes
  1. Step 1

Decide where on the surfboard you want to place the clock. Mark the spot and use a drill fitted with a hole saw attachment to cut a hole big enough for the clock mechanism to fit snugly.

  2. Step 2

Slide the clock mechanism into the hole. Make sure the battery is accessible from the back or that the power cord is not obstructed.

  3. Step 3

Secure the clock mechanism in the hole. Trim shims to the depth of the surfboard to fill any large gaps and glue the clockworks in place.

  4. Step 4

Attach the clock face to the clock mechanism on the front of the surfboard. Add the hands and secure them and the face to the mechanism with the bolt provided with the clock kit, or use a suitable sized end cap.

  5. Step 5

Drill holes in the back of the surfboard and use screw eyes and a wire for hanging the surfboard clock.
