If you ever wanted to get more bang for your buck, you can literally do so with your very own cannon. This is a fun novelty item to have, and it is not as expensive as it would seem to make. All you need are PVC pieces, some sealing agents and a common BBQ lighter to get started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Three-foot PVC pipe
  • PVC y-junction piece
  • PVC tape
  • PVC cement agent
  • PVC screw cap
  • Igniting mechanism from a BBQ lighter
  • Drill
  • PVC Plug piece
  1. Step 1

Connect the three-foot-long PVC pipe with the y-junction. Use PVC tape to put them together, then use PVC cement to secure the connection.

  2. Step 2

Attach the PVC screw cap on the base end of the y-junction. This will be used as the cover for fueling the cannon with propane gas.

  3. Step 3

Take the igniting mechanism from a barbecue lighter. It is a covered wiring with an exposed metal tip attached to the pressure switch. This is the only component of the barbecue lighter you really need.

  4. Step 4

Drill a hole at the center of the PVC Plug piece. The hole should be large enough to accommodate the wiring of the igniting mechanism but small enough to leave the switch out.

  5. Step 5

Insert the igniting piece through the hole, then carefully cement the component in place. Make sure sparking tips remain dry and unblemished at all times. Add PVC tape to seal any air holes, then let the component dry.

  6. Step 6

Connect the PVC Plug with the igniting mechanism onto the remaining open y-junction slot. Secure the attachment with PVC cement and tape. Wait for all the pieces to dry off.

  7. Step 7

Test out the cannon by using a potato as ammo. Shove it into the barrel as far as possible so that it rests between the connective point of the pipe and y-junction. Open the PVC screw port and Plug, then apply a small amount of propane gas inside. Seal it, take aim, and fire the igniting mechanism. If the potato launches, you have successfully made a cannon.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take caution with the amount of gas you use. Too much propane in the cannon may cause a sudden explosion and potential injury. Be careful where you aim as this cannon can potentially damage property and injure people.
