One of the features allowing you to customize your LG Vu cell phone is the use of ringtones. You can create custom ringtones for your LG Vu using a program called BitPim and a cell phone data cable.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • BitPim software
  • USB modem drivers for your phone
  • Data cable
  1. Step 1

Connect your LG Vu cell phone to your computer using the USB data cable.

  2. Step 2

Open up the latest version of the BitPim software. Most cell phones will automatically detect it, but the LG Vu is unfortunatley not one of them. Thus, you must manually set the phone in BitPim.

  3. Step 3

Open the Edit menu and choose Settings. Click Browse to select your phone type and port. Look for two lines: $Phone CDMA USB Modem #X and "(*) $Phone CDMA USB Serial Port (COMxx). The manufacturer of your phone is $Phone (e.g., LGE for LG phones). COMxx denotes the driver port number (e.g., COM4, COM10).

  4. Step 4

Select the appropriate port number and click OK. The BitPim software will detect your LG Vu cell phone.

  5. Step 5

Save the audio files that you wish to use as ringtones as 16 bit 44.1 KHz WAV files. Most ringtone files should be 15 seconds in length.

  6. Step 6

Add your ringtone files to BitPim by expanding the Media tree in the left pane and selecting Ringers. Click the Toolbar button that appears as a double clef note with a plus symbol to add a ringtone. The Choose File dialog appears. Select the appropriate audio file and press Open.

  7. Step 7

Choose mp3 for the file type in the conversion dialog box. Choose 44100 for the sample rate if you want a high-quality ringtone, 32000 for a decent-quality ringtone and 22050 for a fair-quality ringtone. Channels should be set to 1 for mono and 2 for a stereo.

  8. Step 8

Press Convert to bring up a command prompt. When the command prompt disappears, BitPim will allow you to play the music file to make sure you are satisfied with its quality. Press OK if you like what you hear.

  9. Step 9

Press Send Data to Phone, click Add and then click OK in the dialog box to finish the process. BitPim indicates file uploads and changes to let you know that the process is working. The indicator turns green as soon as the file has been successfully transferred.

  10. Step 10

Close BitPim and disconnect your cell phone from your computer. Shut down and reboot your phone for your new ringtone sound file to appear.
