Homemade cookies make a great baby shower favor as they are both personal and consumable. You don't have to be a professional cookie decorator to make lovely cookie favors. Just choose a favorite sugar cookie recipe and a simple cookie cutter and decoration design. Most art supply or cooking stores offer a variety of cookie cutters, cookie decorating books and other aids that will help make the process smooth and the product delightful. 1. Choose a favorite sugar cookie recipe and one or more large, appropriate cookie cutter shapes such as a baby bottle, baby bootie, baby rattle or diaper. Cookie cutters should be 3 to 5 inches long and wide to make a large enough favor.

2. Mix up the batter and bake the cookies according to the recipe. Let the cookies cool completely before decorating.

3. Frost and decorate the cookies, using generic colors if the gender of the baby is unknown, or pinks or blues depending on whether the baby is a boy or girl. You can keep the cookie simple with just a single layer of frosting sprinkled with sugar, or get more elaborate by adding different colors of frosting, outlines and details. Allow frosted cookies to sit out uncovered in a dry place for at least six hours so that the frosting can harden.

4. Make labels, either on a computer or by hand that include special information about the coming baby such as due date and name, or a message or verse in honor of the coming birth. Place these across the bottom of a clear party bag that you can purchase at an art supply or cooking store.

5. Place each cookie in a bag. Tie the bags with twistie ties or ribbon. If you use ribbon, curl it or tie bows to add a final touch.

6. Arrange cookie favors in a basket with their tied sides up. Place the basket at the door for guests to take as they leave.
