1
Remove the sliding part of the window from the frame, as well as the screen. There should be screws that are used to attach the window to the track. Use a screwdriver to remove these screws, and pull the window out of the frame.
-
2
Build a platform or support where the air conditioner can sit. Two pieces of 2-by-4 cut to the right size can be used on the sill as a base for the platform. Use a drill to secure the platform or supports to the sill with a few screws.

3
Create a frame to cover the opening and support the air conditioner in the window. Cut a piece of plywood that is the same size as the window. Use a skill saw to cut a hole in the plywood that is big enough for the air conditioner to fit.
-
4
Secure the piece of plywood in the window opening where the sliding window fit. Use a drill and screws to secure the plywood to the window. Use a drill to create a pilot hole through the window frame, if necessary.

5
Place the air conditioner into the opening in the plywood. Use a couple of screws to secure the air conditioner to the plywood, or the platform to hold the unit in place.

Tips & Warnings
Measure the width of the window opening to determine the maximum size air conditioner that can be used. An air conditioner will sit better in a window when it is on a relatively flat surface. Caulk or sealant can be used to seal around the air conditioner and the plywood.
Forcing the sliding window out of the frame could break or damage the window.
