    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Clear glue
    • Food coloring
    • Mixing palette or empty jars
    • Toothpicks or Popsicle sticks
      • 1

Pour some glue into separate jars or sections of a mixing pallete. Use as many different containers as you will want colors.

      • 2

Add a drop or two of food coloring to each container of glue. Use sparingly: One drop of color will be enough for up to a cup of glue, in most cases.

      • 3

Mix black acrylic with glue to create opaque black dye. (Use this for outlining your designs to create the appearance of partitions in sections of glass.)

      • 4

Stir glue thoroughly with a toothpick or Popsicle stick. Use a new stir stick for each color.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Choose a clear glue for this project. A water-based, nontoxic school glue will allow you to create peelable, washable window dyes, whereas an epoxy-based glue is better for creating a permanent, waterproof dye. Apply dye to clean, dry glass using a paintbrush. When applied in thin coats, the dye should adhere to vertical glass. For best results with thicker coats, lay the glass flat if possible.
