How to Get Clean and Dry Clothes and Laundry
Clean laundry is essential to running a balanced, successful household. Whether your laundry duties include just yourself or a large family, it's important to regularly clean your clothing. Sort your dirty clothing according to color and washing instructions. Check the inside label of clothing to find out how to wash that specific item. For example, some shirts can be washed in hot water, while others should only be washed in cold water. Avoid washing colored clothing and white clothing together, as this can lead to unsightly color transfers on your lighter clothes.

Examine your clothing to spot any stains before you begin to wash your clothes. Pre-treat stains with a spray-on laundry stain remover. You can purchase a stain remover at your local household goods store.

Place your clothing into a washing machine. Older, more traditional washing machines require you to place the laundry detergent directly in the machine with your clothing, while high-efficiency washers have a separate slot for the detergent, as they release the detergent periodically throughout the washing cycle. Close the lid of the machine and turn it on. Select the setting you want and start the washer.

Hang your clothing on a clothesline if you want to air-dry your clothing. This is an ideal way to cut your electricity bill in the warm summer months. If you want to air-dry your clothing but are unable to dry items outside, hang them throughout your house. Hang clothes on the backs of chairs, over the tops of doors or even across a table.

Place damp items in your electric dryer if you want to dry items quickly. Examine your clothing labels to make sure that each item can be dried in a dryer. Place a fabric softener sheet in the dryer to leave your clothes smelling clean and fresh. Close the door and turn the dryer on to your desired setting. After you remove your dry clothing, remember to clean off the lint filter for the next user.

Hand wash delicate items in a basin or sink with cold to lukewarm water, depending on the material. Let soiled items soak for about 10 to 15 minutes, while other items can be washed quickly and rinsed. Allow to air-dry.
