Instructions

    • 1

Cut all of the hair off of the doll's head with scissors. Unfasten the doll's head from the body to make it easier to work with.

    • 2

Pull the remaining locks of hair out of the inside of the head with the crochet hook. You can use scissors as well.

    • 3

Cover the head with a thin plastic wrap. Wrap a rubber band around the bottom of the doll's head to secure the wrap in place.

    • 4

Wrap the gauze or loose-weave fabric over the doll's head on top o the plastic wrap. Pull the cloth tight to make it very smooth, and secure it tightly with a rubber band.

    • 5

Mark the hairline for the wig onto the fabric using permanent marker. Dip the paint sponge into the tacky glue, then brush the glue onto the doll's head. Do this until the fabric is really, really wet with tacky glue. Allow the glue to dry overnight or longer. The glue will form a cast of the doll's head.

    • 6

Test to see if the glue feels dry to the touch. If so, remove the rubber band from the fabric and gently separate the fabric from the plastic wrap. Feel the underside of the cast; if it still feels tacky, allow it to dry for several more hours.

    • 7

Cut the fabric along the permanent marker hair line so that all that is left is the cap in the mold of the doll's head. Put the cast back on the doll's head over the top of the plastic wrap. If the fit is loose, pull in the sides and stitch the back to make it taut.

    • 8

Apply a thin line of glue at the bottom of the cap in back. Take some mohair and set the top end of it into the glue. Push it down to make it secure. Be sure the top ends of the hair gets into the glue. Once that line is complete, put a line of glue above it and repeat, working your way from the bottom to the top and working from side to side once you've gone above the ears. Keep working until the back and sides are complete.

    • 9

Apply glue to the top of the cap, and stick the ends of the mohair into the glue, rather than making it lie flat as you did on the rest of the head. This will give the doll's hair more body for a more natural look. Continue sticking the mohair into the glue until the entire top of the scalp is covered. Consider where you'd like to part the hair when deciding on placement for the mohair. Allow the glue to dry for several hours.

    • 10

Remove the wig from the plastic wrap, then turn it over. Glue a small section of mohair into the center of the wig and around the edges. This will keep the cap from showing when the doll is wearing the wig. Allow to dry for several hours. Replace the doll's head onto the doll and remove the plastic wrap. Once the glue is completely dry, place the wig on the doll and style as you choose.
