With many people looking for ways to make some extra money, one of the easiest and most lucrative businesses to start is a home cleaning business.

I've operated both commercial, industrial and home cleaning businesses, and by far the easiest and most profitable is home cleaning.

The first thing to do when starting up a home cleaning business is to take inventory of yourself.

If you're shy about cleaning anything, for example - bathrooms, this is not the business for you, no matter how easy to start or the margins you make.

Make sure you're up to cleaning as a business before you start.

Before you go out looking for your first customer, decide how much you want to make per hour before starting.

Home cleaning is one of the easiest businesses to figure this out. The reason why is there are very few expenses connected to cleaning homes.

All you have is the cleaning materials themselves, which are rather inexpensive and last over numerous cleaning sessions, depending on the size of the house to be cleaned.

Next, negotiate on how your client will want to be charged. Some people like to pay according to the entire house, others are willing to pay by the hour.

In my experience, it's better to get paid by the job than by the hour, as there are many more opportunities for misunderstanding when you turn in hours that are more than a client expected.

The secret here is you must accurately identify the time it will take you to clean. If you underbid, you'll really hurt yourself, and create bad will if you attempt to change your prices.

To help you do this, you need to ask the client to specifically list what rooms are to be cleaned, and what they want done within those rooms.

Don't assume anything at this point. Get everything in writing so there can be no misunderstanding, and make sure each party has a copy.

Once this is all done, still hold back on your bid until you check the prices of cleaning supplies, and figure out a good estimate of how much will be used per job.

At that time, you can accurately make a bid that satisfies you and hopefully the client.

Because you've already determined what your hourly rate will be strictly for your pay, then you can add the costs of materials to that to end up with your final bid.

      It's as simple as that.

Once you get that first contract, it's exciting, and it should be. So for just the cost of the supplies to clean a house, you can go into a business that is almost 90 percent profit, as all you have for expenses is the cost of cleaning supplies to begin.

House cleaning is a great, easy, and profitable business to get into.
