How to get rid of Moles from your Lawn. Moles can tear a yard to shreds. Here is a quick guide to some ways to repel or at least control these invaders.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Harpoon Trap
  • Shovel
  • Scissor Trap
  • Eyes
  1. Step 1

Ok, lets get one thing straight. Some of you may hate this but most home remedies do not work. Even more of you will also hate the fact that the ONLY reliable way to control a mole problem is to trap them. And no I don't mean trapping them alive. This is what this article is about, if you don't want to know this stop reading now. Moles do beneficial things for your lawn, think about that and have nice dreams.

  2. Step 2

So your still reading? You must be really serious about this mole thing. All right there should be links to pest pages on this page or do a quick internet search. You are looking for two kinds of traps, a thing called a harpoon trap or a scissors trap. Go out and get one, we have evil work to do.

  3. Step 3

Now you must choose a place to put said trap (which ever one you chose). You are looking for active tunnels that your little insectivore mole friend uses. No these traps do not go on holes, nor mounds, nor anything other than an active tunnel. Moles only move dirt out of holes, so thus holes are useless for the traps. Active tunnels are ones your mole friends uses everyday to commute and search for food. These can be found along man made boundaries such as driveways fence rows etc. These are generally straight, once located it is time to proceed to the next step.

  4. Step 4

Once located a possible active tunnel you must test it. To test take a small section and just smoosh it in. The mole in time will rebuild it if it is active. If its not active this impression will stay, most likely you have discovered one of the vast network of feeding tunnels the mole uses. Moles are insectivores, which means they feed on insects. This is a big reason why baits will NOT work on them. Also their main diet consists of earthworms so controlling grub populations will also not work on moles.

  5. Step 5

You've found an active tunnel for the mole. Now take the trap (according to the instructions) and place it as stated. But be sure to make another depression in the tunnel again. Now you want to place the trigger pan as close to this depression's surface as possible. Do you see how the trap gets the moles now? If not this is how. When ever a collapse happens (or in this case a partial collapse) moles will repair it. Now by repairing the depression the mole pushes up on the trigger pan (the mole can also do this by trying to squeeze by) and harpoons (or scissors its your fiendish choice) will take care of the mole problem for you.

Tips & Warnings
  • This article is not for the faint of heart. This method WILL KILL moles.
