Instructions

    • 1

First, change your mindset. You will not be more productive in life unless you change your way of thinking. Begin to think that every project, task, thing to do and accomplish is a bite size piece of shrimp. Most people procrastinate because they think they are taking on a whale, needing to eat the entire piece. They see everything as one big project that needs to be done. Productive people recognize that everything is a piece of shrimp. They accomplish more in life because they eat one piece of shrimp at a time. We graduated from school by taking one year at a time. We did not take 12 years of high school all at once. Change your thinking and you will see the secret of productive people.

    • 2

Identify all of the projects, tasks, things to do and what you want to work on. Write down each one on a piece of paper. Next to each one write a due date and a category name.

    • 3

Next, organize the list by due date then by category. This will show you when your projects, tasks, things to do are due to be completed. This will also show you the type of categories you are working on (ie, work related, personal, hobbies, volunteering).

    • 4

Write down 2 to 3 sub-task for each project on your list. This will show you the amount of work that is required to complete each item. Put a due date next to each sub-task.

    • 5

Your new way of thinking will be to complete one sub-task at a time. When the sub-task is complete, move on to the next. When all sub-tasks are complete then move on to the next project. When a project is complete then move on to the next project.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tackle each project in bite size chunks.

  • Focus on each individual task one at a time before proceeding to the next.

  • You can use simple pen and paper, a calendar or a planner to manage your projects.

  • No need for formal time management courses, executive coaching or leadership development classes.
