How to Return the HP Notebook Battery on Recall

Recently, HP and Compaq recalled 70,000 or more notebook batteries due to potential fire hazard. These batteries need to be removed from the notebook computers immediately for a return and replacement for the safety of the consumer and the personal computer.

  • HP Computer / Compaq Computer
  • HP Contact Information
  1. Step 1

    Check your notebook computer for the recalled battery. The computers affected by the recall include:

    HP Pavilion Notebook - DV2000, DV2500, DV2700, DV6000, DV6500, DV6700, DV9000, DV9500 and DV9700. Compaq Presario Notebook - A900, C700, F700, V3000, V3500, V3700, V6000, V6500 and V6700. HP Notebook - G6000 and G7000. HP Compaq Notebook - 6720S.

  2. Step 2

    Check your notebook battery and match against HP recalled battery list. The battery numbers recalled include: 62940//AXV////, 65033//B7U////, 65033//B7V////, 65033//BGU////, 65035//B7U////, 65035//B7V////, 65035//BGU////, 65035//BGV////, 67059// V8U//// and 67059//V8V////. The / listed in the recalled battery model number can be any number or letter.

  3. Step 3

    Remove the battery. If you feel your computer notebook battery is one of these list, the battery needs to be removed immediately. The computer can still be used after the notebook battery is removed with electric power only.

  4. Step 4

    Contact the HP company. HP can be contacted on the web at http://www.hp.com/support/BatteryReplacement or the consumer can call 1-800-889-2031. Consumers can reach the customer return center between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM Central Time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never use a battery other than those supplied by HP.

on 7/16/2009 Great information. I had no idea about the recall but at least my computer and battery serial number are not included.
