Fix a stuck pixel

LCD monitors provide sharp pictures by breaking an image down into small pixels. Some times one of these pixels can become stuck on one color. Fortunately there are ways to fix a stuck pixel.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First see if you can return the monitor. Many manufacturers will return a screen that has a stuck pixel for a new replacement monitor.

  2. Step 2

First try to fix a stuck pixel by using a software program that quickly turns on and off pixels to revive them. There are several options for this but the one I have used with success is called JScreenFix, although there are many others as well.

  3. Step 3

First find the pixel. Try bringing up a completely black or completely white background to see the pixel. Remember its location.

  4. Step 4

With the screen on take your finger and tap the location of the stuck pixel. You should tap hard enough to see the screen below your finger change color, but not much harder. Tap 4 or 5 times and check to see if you fixed the stuck pixel. Repeat a few times to see if it works.

  5. Step 5

Now try turning off the screen and applying pressure to the pixel by taking a ballpoint pen and covering the tip with a piece of cloth to avoid puncturing the screen. While you are applying pressure to the pixel turn the screen on. Wait about 10 seconds and remove the pressure and see if you have managed to fix the stuck pixel.

Tips & Warnings
  • Applying pressure to your screen may damage it if done incorrectly.
