Easy ways to protect your skin from everyday sun damage in the Sunshine State.

  1. Step 1

    The first obvious step is to wear sun block but finding one that isn't smelly or cakey is the hard part. Try Eucerin's Protection Body Lotion SPF 15. It smells great and works just like regular lotion to moisturize and with the added sun block protection you'll help fight damage from everyday exposure such as walking back and forth into work. Most facial moisturizers contain SPF protection as well without causing break outs. Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 is great and works on sensitive skin.

  2. Step 2

    Get you vehicle windows tinted as dark as the law allows on the side windows. As most Floridians are aware, you can get one heck of a farmers tan just from driving. The same goes for the sunroof. Sunroofs are great sometimes but having the cover open everyday can really cause skin damage to your shoulders, chest and scalp. Those are the parts that are exposed the most next to your face so protect them as much as possible.

  3. Step 3

    When exercising or working outside cover up. Wear a hat, sunglasses and long sleeve tops and pants. Many places that sell athletic wear sell clothing that is designed to breath and whisk away sweat while protecting your skin from the searing sun. Look at people that live in the desert. Everything they wear is long and meant to cover up. That's not all for looks people. Too much sun can kill. If you are jogging and can't stand the thought of wearing all that cover up then wear shorts and a long sleeve top. Most peoples legs don't get half the exposure the rest of your body does in a normal day so if you must have skin exposed make it the lower half. Also try to perform your outside work or exercising during the early morning or in the late evening. The sun is at it's highest during the middle of the day which not only can cause serious sunburn but also heat exhaustion -two important reasons to stay out of the sun.

  4. Step 4

    When walking your dogs , touring an outside garden or walking to the bus stop use an umbrella. This sounds silly to a lot of people but walking in the bright sunshine is nice for about 5 minutes until you start to sweat and then the suns rays are magnified on your now moist skin. Besides looking terrible when you arrive at your destination you now have a sunburn. You wouldn't stand out in the rain without protection and exposure by rain doesn't kill. Use an umbrella when walking outdoors when walking for a moderate distance and not only will your skin thank you, you'll also remain cooler and less sweaty.

  5. Step 5

    Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize! First moisturize from the inside by drinking plenty of water. Second make sure you apply your SPF 15 lotion ritually and at night before you go to sleep apply a night time repairing crème to help replenish and repair your skin while you sleep. Never let your skin be dry, flaky or sunburned. If you are sunburned make sure you immediately apply cooling and healing gel such as aloe on your burn. Avoid all sun exposure until sunburn has healed. Keeping your skin moisturized will help it fight off damage and premature wrinkles and freckles.
