How to Get Rid of Cat Allergy Hives with Oatmeal

Cat allergy hives are painful and itchy. Hives look like welts on the skin and are a product of an allergic reaction to cat hair or skin dander. It is important to stop the allergic reaction first through use of an antihistamine (call the pharmacist or doctor). However, an easy way to relieve the pain and itch of the hives is using oatmeal.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Measuring cup
  • Mixing spoon
  • 2 small bowls
  • 1Tbsp. oatmeal (Regular oatmeal in a can, not instant or flavored)
  • 1 small pot
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Strainer
  • Cotton puffs
  1. Step 1

    Pour 1 cup of water into pot and bring to boil.

  2. Step 2

    Put 1 Tbsp oatmeal in small bowl and slowly pour boiling water into bowl. Stir once and let oatmeal soak in bowl of hot water for 30 minutes. This will be the start of the paste you'll need to get rid of cat allergy hives with oatmeal.

  3. Step 3

    After 30 minutes, strain oatmeal cat allergy mixture into other small bowl.

  4. Step 4

    Throw away or recycle the oats left in the strainer from the cat allergy oatmeal mixture.

  5. Step 5

    When strained oatmeal liquid is cool. Use cotton puff to apply liquid to cat allergy hives.

  6. Step 6

    After first application of cat allergy oatmeal liquid dries, apply second application.

  7. Step 7

    The cat allergy oatmeal mixture should begin to control the pain and itch almost immediately. Allow liquid to remain on cat allergy hives until they go away.

  8. Step 8

    When cat allergy hives have gone away, rinse oatmeal liquid off of skin with warm water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not only does oatmeal soothe the pain and itch of cat allergy hives, but the oat proteins leave a protective barrier on the skin and help retain moisture.
