How to Become a Fit Model
People who try to maintain a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise often keep up with the latest health trends by reading health magazines, ads and websites. They often see pictures of other people who have worked hard so that their bodies appear fit and healthy. After a while, these people may decide to become fit models. Yet, they may not know exactly how to start this kind of modeling career.

1
Decide what kind of fit modeling is desired. Before a person can begin this career, they need to determine whether or not they want to model in print ads, on sport-related television commercials, or on the runway.
-
2
Learn about the world of fit modeling. People must educate themselves about what agencies and advertisers look for in a fit model. Conduct this research by studying magazines and visiting fit modeling agency websites to see what their clients look like.

3
Gain work experience by doing amateur fit modeling. People who are members of local gyms can pose in ads for the facility. Some fitness magazines, particularly Shape, have reader models in every issue. This opportunity is open to professional and amateur fit models; however, they do not pay for this service. Interested people can apply online and, if used, will receive their clips to show to prospective agencies.
-
4
Participate in fit model competitions. Agents often attend these competitions to see if any of the contestants fit their agencies' profiles. Even if people don't win, competition helps them network with people in the industry.
-
5
Use the Internet as a marketing tool by creating a professional image on a web page or social network. People can place their fit modeling portfolio on these sites, which could lead agencies or prospective employers to them.
-
6
Be prepared to travel. Many top modeling agencies are located in California or New York, so unless a person lives in these areas, they will have to travel to meet with agencies at which they apply. Some of their fit modeling jobs, too, may send them out of the country.
