Installing Microsoft's Vista operating system on your computer via a Firewire cable has its benefits over installing via USB. Firewire ports and cables are dramatically faster than USB. Installing via Firewire is not the only way to get the job done, but it's certainly the fastest.

Things You'll Need:

  • External CD or DVD drive
  • Firewire cable
  1. Step 1

Connect your external CD or DVD drive to your computer via a Firewire cable.

  2. Step 2

Put the Microsoft Windows Vista installation CD in the drive's tray.

  3. Step 3

Reboot your computer. It will automatically recognize the installation disc while booting, which will in turn make it boot directly into the Vista Installation Wizard.

  4. Step 4

Follow the on-screen instructions. When the Installation Wizard pops up, select "Install Vista" from the list of options. Follow the instructions to guide you through the set-up process.

  5. Step 5

Reboot your computer one last time to finish the installation. Take the installation disc out of the drive, and when your computer reboots, it will load directly into your new Windows Vista operating system.
