Make an Amiga Hard Drive Bootable

There are a number of reasons why a person would want to make an Amiga hard drive bootable. Perhaps your drive contains a second or different operating system and you would rather boot to that than whatever you're booting to now. Regardless of the reason, it is a simple process that requires only a few keyboard strokes.

Instructions

Connect your Amiga hard drive to your computer. Depending on whether your hard drive is internal or external, you can do this in two different ways. For an external drive, simply connect it to your computer via a USB or firewire cable. If your hard drive is internal, you'll have to open your computer's case and connect the drive to your motherboard using a free ribbon cable. The ribbon cable runs from the motherboard and plugs into the back of your hard drive.

Boot up your computer and get access to the BIOS screen. This screen contains the settings for the inner workings of your computer. You can get here by hitting F12 on your keyboard as your computer boots up but before it loads your operating system.

Change your BIOS settings so that you stop booting from your primary hard drive and start booting from your Amiga hard drive. Move the cursor to the "Boot Settings" screen and change the option under the "Device 1" column from whatever it presently says to the option that describes your newly installed/attached Amiga hard drive.
