Looking to buy a diamond engagement ring or other diamond jewelry and simply want to make it look larger than it really is? Obviously, the diamond's cut, shape, quality, etc. all determine and have an impact on its size. Learn how you can make a diamond ring or any diamond jewelry look bigger than its true carat weight!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

In order to make a diamond appear bigger than its true carat, consider buying fancy shaped diamonds. These appear bigger than the round, circular diamonds of equal carat. Look into purchasing diamonds that are elongated, oval, or pear-shaped.

  2. Step 2

Another effective way to make your diamonds look bigger is to create an illusion. Before mounting the diamond, you can mount a mirror-like plate which will make it look brighter and larger than it really is.

  3. Step 3

You can also consider choosing a diamond in bezel setting. This is where the rim encircles the diamond. Choosing platinum or white gold will enhance the diamond, making it look much larger.

  4. Step 4

You can opt to get your diamonds cut shallow. Shallow cuts make a diamond appear larger than ones with the same proportional cut, but there is a downside to this. Shallow diamonds lose that brilliance and shine that comes with a diamond. This is because light traveling through the diamond tends to go down instead of bouncing to the diamond and then to your vision.
