If a check is made out to you, to endorse it simply turn it over and sign your name on the top line. This hard to see line, especially when the light is dim, may not be visible, but it should be on the same end of the check as is the name and address of the account holder of the check. (If you don't see a line just sign it in the area at the end of the check.

2
Endorse the check as it is written to you. Include middle name or middle initial, only if it is written out that way. If your name was misspelled, spell it correctly when endorsing it.

Waiting until you are cashing or depositing a check into a bank, is the best time to do so. If you lose an endorsed check, finders keepers. However there is a safe guard for a lost check. You can endorse the check and directly below your signature write, For Deposit Only into checking account # _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . This is absolutely the way to endorse a check for an after hours deposit. It is also the way to do it, if you're sending a friend or relative to deposit it for you. (If they question your trust, tell them that is in case you lose it).
