Children can memorize multiplication facts easier than you think.

You can easily teach multiplication to your child. It is all about memorization. Keep practicing with them until they have all the multiplication facts for numbers zero to twelve memorized.

Instructions

      ORDER - Teach your child their multiplication facts in the following order: zero, one, two, five, ten, eleven, three, four, six, seven, eight, nine, and twelve. It is easier for children to learn zero, one, two, five, ten and eleven.

      ZERO - Teach your child that everything times zero is zero. They will catch on quickly.

      ONE - Teach your child that everything times one is the number itself

      TWO - Teach your child that two times any number is the same as the double facts they learned when they were learning addition. Four plus four is the same as two times four for example.

      FIVE - Teach your child to count by five using catchy songs and their fingers.

      TEN - Teach your child that ten times any number is the number moved into the tens position. For example ten times 3 is thirty.

      ELEVEN - Teach your child that eleven times any number is two of the numbers, such as eleven times seven is seventy-seven.

      THREE, FOUR, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TWELVE - These multiplication facts need to be memorized.

      It is easier than you think to teach your child multiplication.

      WRITTEN - After they know their multiplication facts verbally, have them practice writing their multiplication facts.

      USE MANIPULATIVES - Use blocks, counters or other manipulatives to help your children learn their multiplication facts. You should always have a hundred chart and a multiplication facts chart handy or posted on the wall.

      FLASH CARDS - Help your child to memorize their multiplication facts by using flash cards. Start out in number order, mix them up only after they know them firmly in number order.

      VIDEOS - Show your child videos or play them cd's of catchy multiplication songs. School House Rock and Lakeshore both have excellent videos and cd's for your children to help them learn to multiply.

      Your child should have all of their multiplication facts memorized before entering the fourth grade. Start teaching your child their multiplication facts in second grade and continue in the third grade.

      You can quickly and easily teach multiplication to your child.
