Healthy Summer Snack

Summer is here, and now it's time to start planning summer snacks. Celery is a healthy, cool and refreshing vegetable that you can do so many things with. When you're making your party snacks for your next get together with family and friends, or just for yourself, give this idea a try. It's a fast, healthy, refreshing sure to please snack. And so simple to make.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Smoked Turkey
  • Celery
  • Snack Tray
  • Friends and Family
  1. Step 1
    Turkey, Wild or Store Bought.
    Turkey, Wild or Store Bought.

Purchase a Turkey at your local grocery store, (my husband is a hunter, so we use wild Turkey), Turkey goes a long way for this snack, so it doesn't have to be a very large one.

  2. Step 2
    Smoke your Turkey.
    Smoke your Turkey.

You can smoke your own turkey in a smoker, or do like we do and take it to a local business to have them smoke it for you. The price is very reasonable.

  3. Step 3
    Prepare Turkey for the Celery.

Slice the Turkey (white and dark meat both), once you have slices you can just tear or slice long and narrow pieces to fit on the Celery.

  4. Step 4
    Prepare Celery for the Turkey.

Wash and dry your Celery very well, then cut each Celery stalk into snack size lengths, about 3" to 4".

  5. Step 5
    Place Turkey onto the Celery.
    Place Turkey onto the Celery.

Place the prepared Turkey pieces onto each piece of the Celery, then place onto your serving platter, I know you're probably asking, just Celery and Smoked Turkey? but just the two together have a great flavor. Cover and place finished platter into the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also spread a cheese spread of your choice, like Smoked
  • flavored, Pimiento, or even Cheez Wiz onto the Celery before placing the Turkey on it.
  • I like to drizzle a few drops of Hot Sauce on mine, my favorite Hot Sauce for this snack is CHOLULA ORIGINAL.
  • Any left over Smoked Turkey can be frozen or even used in a good ole pot of beans of any kind.
  • Buy the smaller Celery for this snack, the larger Celery is way too stringy and the flavor is also too strong. You can use either, but smaller is better for this.
  • Don't add the Hot Sauce if you are sensitive to spicy foods.
  • Make sure your Turkey is smoked till done, because it is Poultry.
  • Be prepared to have your family and friends ask you to make this snack a lot.

on 9/9/2009 Even lazy people could do this with a bag of celery and turkey lunch meat. But it wouldn't be half as good as real smoked turkey. Interesting idea! 5* for great writing and originality!
