How to Use Pro Tools 7

Pro Tools 7 is a software program used by sound professionals to create a digital audio workstation. Pro Tools 7 works with REX and ACID files, two formats that are commonly used in audio samples and loops. In order to use Pro Tools 7, you will need to purchase the software, own a Pro Tools approved system and have Windows XP or a higher operating system installed.

  1. Step 1

    Purchase and download Pro Tools 7. The DigiDesign site offers purchasing information for Pro Tools 7. Additionally, you can find support documents and upgrade notices through the manufacturer's site.

  2. Step 2

    Create a new session in Pro Tools 7 after you have downloaded the software. Go to the "File" menu and select the "New Session" option when you open the program. Name the session and set the session parameters. This will include setting the audio file type. Import the audio that you want to use after setting these parameters with the "Import" menu.

  3. Step 3

    Group your audio files together with Pro Tools 7. You can make quick arrangements on Pro Tools 7 by using the grouping tool to combine audio and MIDI regions. While making your arrangements, you can use region looping to fill in gaps.

  4. Step 4

    Go to the "Zoom Toggle" menu. From this toolbar, you can access the different tools required to edit your audio selections. This may include adding pictures to your audio, fade modes, making a marker list and placing lyrics on a timeline. Choose to alter multiple tracks at once by selecting "Link Track" while in the edit mode.

  5. Step 5

    Make use of plug-ins on Pro Tools 7. By adding plug-ins, you can access digital instruments to edit and create new audio files. Pro Tools 7 supports a large range of audio plug-ins that use RTAS processing.
