Attach mold-resistant backer board to the shower walls as well as the seat. Use drywall screws to secure the backer board to studs in the wall and the frame for the seat.

Use a tape measure to find the dimensions of the shower to see how much tile will be needed. The total area, including the seat, may need to be calculated differently depending on the size of the that is going to be used.

Apply a layer of thinset to the wall and put the first tile in place. It is important to start at the bottom of the wall and work your way to the top. Decorative tile can be added once a certain point is reached on the wall. Lay the decorative tile in place and continue tiling until the wall is finished.

Tiling a shower seat will require cutting individual tiles to fit properly. Lay the full size tile in the center so that smaller pieces are used on the edges. Smaller pieces that need to go around the edges of the seat will need to be cut.

Cut individual pieces that are needed to fit at the top of the wall in corners or on edges of the seat. Cutting tile may need to be done more than once to get a piece to fit into place. The tile will likely need to have a 45-degree cut for the edge of the shower seat.

Wait at least 24 hours for the tile to set before applying the grout. Use a damp sponge to clean any residue that gets on the tile.
