Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Recipes
- Writing skills
- Graphic designer
-
Step 1
Come up with a specialty for your cookbook. Ideas such as dinner under $10, just desserts or appetizers are some ways to lock into a niche.
-
Step 2
Gather recipes and be direct with instructions. Make sure your recipes are your recipes, not just a collection that you've copied off the Internet. Many should also have accompanying photographs. Visual images attract customers.
-
Step 3
Organize the layout of your book. You can type your pages in any word processing program. You will need a foreword and table of contents. You might also want an acknowledgments page and perhaps a notes page in the back.
-
Step 4
Get a graphic designer. It might seem too expensive, but paying a professional $12 - $21 per hour is imperative. Be sure to find someone with book layout and cover experience. A good cover can make all the difference when fighting for shelf space.
-
Step 5
Find a printer and shop around. Printing is a very competitive business, so make sure to get lots of quotes. A great place to start is a company called Bookmasters. They not only offer printing services, but distribution and even design and editorial services.
