How to Make Tulips With Old Egg Cartons

Kids can easily make tulips with old egg cartons to use as gifts or springtime decorations. This craft is economical because it uses empty egg cartons, an item that is found in most homes and usually ends up in a landfill. you can make egg carton tulips around Earth Day to drive home the point of reusing things that would normally end up in the trash. A bouquet also makes a wonderful gift for Mother's Day and you can also use it as an Easter decoration.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Wash and dry the egg cartons. While cardboard egg cartons are recommended for this craft, Styrofoam cartons also make interesting flowers.

  2. Step 2

    Cut the cups on the egg carton apart. Cut out an upside down triangle on either side of each cup. Each triangle should go down about 1 inch. Cut out an additional 2 triangles on the other two sides of the cup opposite each other.

  3. Step 3

    Paint the outside of the tulip in a color of your choice. You can leave the inside as is or paint it yellow. Allow the paint to dry completely.

  4. Step 4

    Poke a hole in the bottom of the cup. Push the pipe cleaner into the hole and make a loop in the end to secure it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place a piece of florist's foam in a small pot and arrange your tulips inside. Tie a ribbon around several tulips to make a nice bouquet.
  • Always supervise small children who are using scissors. Use only non-toxic paints.
