Open Internet Explorer; select "Tools" in the top menu, then "Internet Options." Under the Security tab, raise the Security Level bar to "High."

Download and install SpyBot Search & Destroy (see link in Resources).

Open SpyBot and select "Check for Problems." A system scan will commence; you can check its progress in the program's bottom toolbar.

When the scan finishes, select any infected files it finds and select "Fix selected problems."

Download and install the free program Avast AntiVirus Home Edition (see link in Resources). During the setup, under the Configuration screen, select "Typical." At the end of the installation, you'll be asked to restart your computer.

Open Avast, once your computer is rebooted. You should see a silver rectangular box. Press the "Play" button on the left and select "Thorough Scan" to begin a system scan.

Select "Move to Virus Chest" on any "A Virus was Found!" window that pops up. Alternately, if you're sure you don't need the infected file, select "Delete" and then "Delete Files Permanently."
