Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Visit thesewphisticatedstitcher.com to order a compact mirror with a special space on the top for a monogram.
-
Step 2
Open your word processing program and choose a font that you like. Often monograms are created with a script-type font that has fancy curves and lines. Enter the monogram letters in the font you have chosen. Typically a monogram will have the last name initial be the larger center letter, the letter on the left stands for the first name, and the letter on the right stands for the middle name. Resize the letters so that they will fit into the 2 1/4-inch-diameter monogram space in the compact.
-
Step 3
Mirror the monogram letters and print them out on your computer printer. Cut out the printed monogram letters in a 2 1/4-inch circle so that the monogram initials are in the center of the circle.
-
Step 4
Place the circle face down on the linen and press hard with a hot iron (no steam) to transfer the printed ink to the linen. Remove the circle and see that a faint outline of the letters transferred to the linen. Fill in any small details to enable you to embroider the letters.
-
Step 5
Select your embroidery floss color. Thread your needle with a 12-inch length of floss. Tie an overhand knot at the end of the thread.
-
Step 6
Insert the needle up from the bottom of the linen. Stitch the inside of the first letter with a satin stitch. A satin stitch is a series of small stitches that are made very close together to fill in an area with colored stitches. After you have filled in the letter area with satin stitches, stitch an outline around the entire area to finish the letter. End the stitching with the needle on the underside of the linen, tie a knot, and clip the thread.
-
Step 7
Repeat step 6 with the other two other monogram initials.
-
Step 8
Cut the embroidered linen into the circle shape by using the printed paper initials as a pattern.
-
Step 9
Insert the monogrammed linen into the embroidered area of the compact mirror.
